Construction Manager

Overview

This position oversees the complete project lifecycle for wastewater treatment construction initiatives, covering preconstruction and budgeting through execution, safety management, and final closure. Coordination with factory production, subcontractors, and clients is essential, with full accountability for project profitability, safety, and quality. Typical project budgets vary from $2,000,000 to $10,000,000+. Travel is necessary as required to fulfill project deliverables and contractual obligations.

Requirements

• Experience managing multiple concurrent small to medium-sized construction projects.
• Understanding and interest in all aspects of water and wastewater facility construction.
• Capability to work alongside a factory-based Production Project Manager.
• Proficient skills in budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor oversight, and procurement.
• Demonstrated ability in project setup, execution, safety enforcement, and closure.
• Accountability for project profitability, schedule adherence, and contract compliance.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support project requirements.

Typical Duties

Project Preconstruction and Kickoff

• Develop project budgets and phase codes for cost tracking.
• Issue and negotiate purchase orders and subcontract agreements.
• Create schedule of values and corresponding AIA billing documents.
• Lead preconstruction meetings.
• Arrange and coordinate all site utilities and temporary facilities if needed.
• Assist with project mobilization.

Project Execution

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, serving as the primary planner and decision-maker.
• Monitor project budgets and maintain responsibility for profitability.
• Create, log, and track Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Write project correspondence and process invoices.
• Maintain BOM/MES systems and oversee all material purchasing.
• Conduct all job site meetings with owners, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Ensure safe work practices, develop Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and maintain proper site housekeeping.
• Verify project construction aligns with contract documents and industry standards.
• Uphold company culture and reputation as the primary site representative.

Project Closeout

• Create and manage the final punch list with the owner’s representative.
• Assume full responsibility for project closure, including documentation and retention collection.
• Complete internal project closeout documentation.

Notice of Work Environment and Occupational Hazards

The wastewater industry presents hazards such as exposure to biological and chemical agents, confined spaces, slips, falls, harsh weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, fumes, and high noise levels. Workers may come into contact with wastewater containing human waste and pathogens. Chemical exposure is also possible. It is essential that employees wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols. Staying current with vaccinations, including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, and Diphtheria, is strongly advised.
