Mad Science Instructor

Position Overview

At Mad Science, we are having an amazing time. We pay you to enjoy yourself. You will build and launch rockets, demonstrate laser technology, investigate the properties of matter with dry ice, and assist children in making slime and other polymers.

General Information

You will motivate the next generation of scientists through our creative, inquiry-based programs designed for elementary school children. This is a part-time role with some seasonal variation. Starting pay is $22.00-$25.00 per hour based on experience, plus reimbursement for mileage. We are seeking highly energetic, dynamic, and confident individuals; you do not need to be a certified teacher.

Responsibilities

• Lead day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school.
• Deliver high-energy, hands-on programs that blend entertainment and education, meeting for one hour each week over approximately 8 to 12 weeks.
• Drive to various locations throughout Los Angeles counties.
• Enjoy teaching young children the art of science.
• Attend paid training sessions either virtually or at our office.
• Participate in the mandatory weekly Friday Staff Meeting, which is compensated.
• Be capable of lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
• Arrive on time for all scheduled activities.
• Follow strict safety and cleanliness protocols.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be available for a minimum of three consistent weekday afternoons from 12 PM to 5 PM. Must commit to the full duration of any program.
• Must have an insured personal vehicle for transporting equipment to locations across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
• Must be available for the mandatory Friday meeting from 11 AM to 12 PM.
• Some experience teaching or working with groups of elementary-age children (ages 4 to 12), such as after-school teacher or camp counselor.
• At least one year of college is suggested. Degrees or graduate degrees are advantageous.
• Theatre experience is a significant advantage.
• Maintain a fun, flexible, and outgoing personality.
