Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for pre-bid takeoffs, estimating, project setup, project coordination, cost information, and project management of heavy civil projects in the public sector to meet or exceed budget, schedule, and quality objectives. In addition, this role involves handling special projects and technical engineering tasks that contribute to the success of the Construction Division.

Compensation

$110,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience. This is a salaried, exempt position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and timely quantity takeoffs using AGTEK, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and manual quantification methods.
  • Implement project controls to ensure compliance with contracts, quality metrics, budgets, schedules, job costing, and forecasting.
  • Understand and interpret plans and specifications; prepare RFIs for additional information in a timely manner.
  • Process submittals and distribute them as required; procure specified materials promptly to meet project schedules and budgetary needs.
  • Provide technical engineering support, including AutoCAD drawings, engineering calculations, and field layout.
  • Document production statistics, generate reports, and forecast projects as needed.
  • Schedule and manage subcontractors and service providers to meet project timelines.
  • Estimate and manage a high volume of projects concurrently, meeting or exceeding necessary metrics.
  • Balance field and office duties on a regular basis.
  • Support other Estimators or Project Managers when necessary to meet critical deadlines.
  • Manage and mentor Project Engineers to support their development and career advancement.
  • Maintain duties related to OSHA regulations, including accident investigation and reporting, safety meetings, training, etc.; actively engage with employees to reinforce safe behaviors; ensure safety, compliance, and environmental requirements are followed.
  • Maintain working relationships with all departments to ensure work objectives are met.
  • Foster an environment of dynamic communication within the project team.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to abide by CalPortland's Core Values.
  • Develop and manage all phases of WPCPs, SWPPPs, Traffic Control Plans, and similar documents.
  • Assist the Superintendent with material procurement, rental equipment, and resource dispatch.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

Education

A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 10-20 years of experience in estimating and managing multiple heavy civil projects.
  • Strong leadership abilities to teach, mentor, and motivate others to achieve outstanding results.
  • Intense desire to learn and succeed in the heavy civil discipline.
  • Must be an effective leader and a strong communicator.
  • Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, AGTEK, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and scheduling software.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to commute to and from work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Bridge Construction, Earthwork, and HMA Paving.
  • GPS proficiency.
  • Primavera P6 scheduling proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidates must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination, drug and alcohol screening, and background check. Some positions require ongoing drug and alcohol testing as regulated by FMCSA.
