Compensation: $70,304.00 annually


Overview

Forward Air is looking for a qualified and committed Operations Supervisor to coordinate dockworkers, drivers, and support staff. This position involves planning, directing, and managing resources to ensure safe and timely loading and unloading of freight during assigned shifts, including training and performance oversight. Prior experience in cargo operations is beneficial.


Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Guarantee that all dock activities adhere to approved procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Directly supervise dockworkers and support personnel during loading and unloading operations.
  • Assign tasks according to unloading and loading schedules.
  • Offer weekly direction and maintain appropriate load plans to ensure safe vehicle operation.
  • Coordinate work assignments, monitor performance, and deliver relevant job training.
  • Oversee facility appearance, condition, and security, and conduct inspections.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trailers and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have management experience (5-7 years preferred) in a high-volume, fast-paced distribution setting.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Management, Logistics, or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
  • Previous route planning and prior air freight experience are required.
  • International or import experience is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate proven leadership skills and knowledge of proper freight handling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all operational levels.
  • Must be flexible to work weekends and nights.
  • Forklift and general freight handling experience.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations.
  • Experience managing a contingent workforce during peak seasons.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 90 pounds.

  • Ability to perform well under pressure and communicate effectively.
  • Strong team player.
  • General computer skills: Microsoft Office, Outlook, and AS400.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
