About OC Independent Living
OC Independent Living, also known as OCIL, delivers independent living skills training and support to adults with developmental disabilities throughout Orange County. The organization prioritizes stable, long-term, and productive relationships.
This role does not include any personal assistance tasks such as feeding, dressing, toileting, or supporting a person's weight.
Living Skills Instructor Role
Instructors work one-on-one with clients who live independently or are planning to move out of their family home. Clients typically require services once per week. Activities may include cooking, budgeting, light exercise, attending doctor appointments, shopping, and communicating with social service agencies. Independent Living Instructors usually begin with two to three clients and eventually build a caseload of five to ten long-term clients.
The organization seeks responsible, engaging motivators with strong communication skills who are comfortable interacting with families and other agencies. This role suits individuals with experience supporting people with disabilities, though prior experience is not mandatory. Instructors work from home and travel directly to clients from their residence. There is no requirement to live near or report to the office located in San Clemente.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model and support resource.
- Maintain daily documentation and keep all records current.
- Foster friendly, trusting, and respectful relationships.
- Attend meetings with social workers.
- May need to lift items up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to take light exercise walks of up to one mile.
- Must be able to travel to clients throughout all of Orange County.
- Must be able to use a personal computer for preparing reports, emailing, and other tasks.
Hours
Hourly, permanent, flexible part-time schedule. Typically weekdays, though weekend shifts are available for interested staff.
Pay
Twenty-five to twenty-eight dollars per hour.

At the Interview, Be Prepared to Show
- A current California drivers license.
- A current DMV Driver Record report, available from the DMV website.
- A current Declaration Page showing your auto insurance coverage amounts. Minimum one hundred thousand dollars per accident in personal, not commercial, coverage.

- Passing a Live Scan background check.
- Approval of your driver record.
When Hired
- Complete online CPR certification, or present a current certificate, and California Harassment training, or present a current certificate, within 30 days.
- Provide consent for drug testing, consent only.
