START-UP ENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Cloacina is a manufacturer and supplier of packaged wastewater treatment plants and industrial equipment, located on the Central Coast of California. It is owned and managed by a family of licensed operators and maintenance mechanics, now in its fourth generation. The Start-Up Engineer ensures client satisfaction throughout the start-up, commissioning, and warranty periods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver technical support for all projects, focusing on starting up and commissioning mechanical, electrical, biological, instrumentation, and automation systems to ensure the complete design functions as an integrated unit and meets client specifications.
• Conduct commissioning coordination meetings with the owner, project management team, and contractors.
• Develop project-specific commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules.
• Manage project-specific pre-start, start-up, and functional testing fieldwork.
• Develop and implement effective training, troubleshooting, and operations support programs to ensure system performance and client satisfaction.
• Provide technical support to clients by identifying and resolving their challenges.
• Solve and prevent client issues by performing system analysis, interpreting data, and offering written recommendations to maintain optimal system performance.
• Assemble and compile Operations and Maintenance Manuals.
• Communicate with clients during and after production.
• Conduct site visits.
• Manage project calendars and maintain contact lists.
• Arrange travel and create itineraries.
• Prepare correspondence, including client letters, memos, reports, forms, meeting minutes, transmittals, and other documents.
• Capture pictures.
• Provide supporting documentation.
• Assess warranty claims and direct warranty repairs.
• Generate and manage QC/Commissioning reports.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed.
• Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A driven, energetic self-starter who identifies and accomplishes goals without explicit instructions.
• Able to manage multiple priorities with consistent and strong follow-through. Capable of analyzing data to recommend improvements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to respond to and handle challenges professionally and with a solutions-oriented approach.
• Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when required, and may need to travel as necessary. Must have knowledge of and ability to use general office equipment, including telephone systems, scanners, and other relevant office hardware.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a thorough working knowledge of the Internet, Adobe Master Collection, and Microsoft Office Suite software.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to sit, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, use hands to finger, climb, balance, talk, hear, crawl, drive, and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
• Must be able to pull and push equipment, exerting up to 100 pounds of force.

Pay is DOE. Applicant must have a clean DMV record. This position may involve occasional travel.

The wastewater industry can be hazardous due to exposure to biological and chemical hazards, as well as physical dangers such as confined spaces, slips, and falls. Employees may come into contact with wastewater containing human waste. Wastewater contains various bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause diseases in humans and animals. Workers can be exposed through contact with wastewater, aerosols containing pathogens, or contaminated equipment. Wastewater treatment processes also involve the use of various chemicals, some of which can be toxic or corrosive. It is imperative that employees wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols. While not mandatory, it is highly recommended that employees stay current with vaccinations, including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, and Diphtheria.
