Overview

Kellow Construction, a premium design-build company focused on classic home renovations, is looking for a Full-Time In-Person Designer. This position combines creative concepts with practical execution, taking projects from initial ideas to final delivery. The perfect candidate possesses a sharp design sense, extensive experience in residential remodeling, and skills in architectural software. The salary range is between $75,000 and $125,000.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Development and Documentation: Lead architectural design from initial concept to plans ready for permits using Chief Architect (or Revit/CAD). Create detailed drawings, perform on-site measurements, handle the permitting process, and confirm that all outputs are precise, within budget, and meet construction standards.
  • Client and Team Collaboration: Guide client design discussions, showcase material choices, and convert client input into practical designs. Work alongside estimators and project managers to verify project feasibility and consistency.
  • Design Innovation and Technical Skill: Stay current with design trends and materials. Show thorough knowledge of kitchen and bathroom design. Ensure all work complies with building regulations and permit conditions.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience in residential design, ideally within a design-build company.
  • Skill in Chief Architect or comparable architectural software.
  • Established ability to generate creative and technically accurate design documents.
  • Solid grasp of Santa Barbara permit rules and residential building codes.
  • Effective time management, organization, and communication abilities.
  • At ease leading client meetings and working with multiple teams.
  • A grounded, humble approach that combines self-assurance with consideration.
  • Additional plus: Background or interest in interior design.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: Based on experience.
  • Employment Type: Full-time, exempt from overtime.
  • Ten paid holidays and 80 hours of paid time off each year.
  • Comprehensive health and life insurance with the employer covering $475 per month of the premium.
  • Dental insurance available at a minimal cost to the employee.
  • Employer matches up to 3 percent of yearly salary into a Dependent Care FSA or Simple IRA.
  • Option to work from home, with in-person meetings required when necessary.
