Mechanical Designer/Draftsman

Overview

The Designer/Draftsman is responsible for keeping 3D models and 2D drawings up to date in line with company and client specifications. This position requires creating process drawings, 3D models, detailed components, and drawing sheet sets for fabrication and building purposes.

Essential Functions

  • Use design and drafting software to produce process drawings, 3D models, general layouts, utility plans, and detailed drawings under the guidance of an engineer and design lead.
  • Develop process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Design 3D models based on process drawings and company requirements with little oversight.
  • Generate 2D drawing package layouts from 3D models.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Coordinate with fabrication and construction teams to assess fit-up and address any concerns.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or General Education Degree along with 5 or more years of relevant experience is necessary. An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is advantageous.
  • A solid background in piping and mechanical design and drafting is essential.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in writing.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the workplace.
  • Apply reasoning and critical thinking to solve problems.
  • Effectively communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to make important decisions while adhering to company policies.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, or comparable 3D solid modeling or CAD software experience or training is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.

Software Experience

  • 3D modeling experience is essential. Autodesk Inventor is strongly preferred. SolidWorks experience may be accepted.
  • AutoCAD experience is essential. Must have at least 5 years of experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Autodesk Plant 3D is a bonus.

Wastewater treatment processes also use various chemicals, some of which may be toxic or corrosive. It is critical that employees wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures. While not mandatory, it is highly recommended that employees stay current with vaccinations, including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, and Diphtheria.
