Position Summary

NorthStar Estimating is looking for a Cost Estimator with 1 to 3 years of professional experience to become part of our team. This is a principal-led position that provides direct guidance and practical involvement in public-sector and institutional projects (covering K-12 schools, higher education, and healthcare facilities). The selected individual will take on meaningful responsibilities and have the chance to advance within a young, high-standard organization dedicated to precision and excellence.

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in estimating, cost consulting, preconstruction, or a similar discipline.
  • A bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or an equivalent field is preferred.
  • Understanding of building drawings, specifications, and construction scope definitions.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Familiarity with takeoff software is advantageous.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational abilities, and clear communication skills.
  • Readiness to learn, assume ownership, and work with diligence and professionalism.
  • An interest in public-sector and institutional assignments is a bonus.

Duties

  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and design packages.
  • Help create estimates at conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document stages.
  • Examine drawings, narratives, and consultant documents to ensure scope alignment and coordination.
  • Assist in organizing estimate workbooks, trade summaries, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain logs for assumptions, exclusions, and allowances.
  • Support pricing research and cost data compilation.
  • Format estimate reports and proposal documents.
  • Take part in internal reviews and quality assurance/quality control processes.
  • Help maintain project files, templates, and estimating tools.
