A growing accounting firm in Burbank, which provides comprehensive financial, tax, and advisory services to a varied client base, is looking for a highly experienced Head Bookkeeper to lead its bookkeeping department and guarantee accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across many client accounts.

Position Overview

The Head Bookkeeper will supervise all bookkeeping operations, manage staff, and handle complex financial records for multiple clients. This position demands strong expertise in property tax filings, city licensing compliance, and full-cycle bookkeeping within an accounting firm setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the bookkeeping team to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients across different industries.
  • Review and reconcile general ledgers, bank accounts, and financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with city licensing requirements, including applications and renewals.
  • Prepare, review, and file property tax reports accurately and on schedule.
  • Collaborate with CPAs on tax preparation and financial reporting.
  • Implement and refine bookkeeping processes and internal controls.
  • Manage client relationships and offer financial insights and support.
  • Assist with audits and regulatory compliance as needed.
  • Prepare year-end books and support tax preparation tasks (data entry, document review, 1099s, sales tax, etc.).
  • Conduct cleanups, transaction entry, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet statements.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Head Bookkeeper or Senior Bookkeeper in an accounting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and multi-client bookkeeping.
  • Hands-on experience with property tax filings and compliance.
  • Familiarity with city licensing requirements and procedures.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks (Online and Desktop).
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or advanced bookkeeping certification is a plus.
