The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) is a nonprofit organization focused on advocating for and supporting TransLatin@ communities through programs, leadership growth, and social justice efforts. TLC is hiring an Accountant to manage daily accounting tasks, assist with financial reporting, maintain precise records, and support audit and grant compliance activities. The ideal candidate must understand nonprofit fund accounting, restricted funds, and the financial reporting requirements specific to charitable organizations. This role includes a six-month probationary period after hiring for performance evaluation.
Essential Functions
- Attendance and punctuality.
- Available to work at least forty hours per week.
- Maintain the general ledger and oversee daily accounting transactions.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Track and report restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Assist with grant budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
- Support annual audits and preparation of tax documents, including Form 990.
- Process payroll or coordinate with payroll providers.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls.
- Assist with budget preparation and forecasting.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting.
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles.
- Experience with grants management and donor-restricted funding.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar.
- Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
- Ensure all high-priority messages are highlighted and responded to promptly.
- Identify and emphasize critical timelines and responses.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and incoming requests from supervisors; experience taking initiative and using independent judgment in non-routine matters.
- Excellent time management with the ability to prioritize and work with high accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, highly organized, and proactive in anticipating department needs; able to track long-term strategies or projects.
- Strong communication skills: oral, written, and interpersonal, to work effectively with high-level donors and stakeholders.
- Work weekends or evenings and possibly occasional special events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing for nonprofit audits.
- Familiarity with government or foundation grant reporting.
- Experience with payroll and HR coordination is a plus.
Non-Essential Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of specific policy needs and issues of TGI people.
- Excellent writing and reading skills.
