Overview

Zurich North America is looking for a seasoned Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter to become part of its premier Middle Market team in Irvine. This client-facing position involves evaluating distinct risks and providing comprehensive Property and Casualty insurance solutions. The compensation for this role ranges from $87,200.00 to $188,800.00, with additional bonus opportunities, determined by the candidate's background and the specific job tier.

What You Will Do

• Build and sustain connections with broker collaborators and clients across diverse industries.
• Utilize Property and Casualty underwriting knowledge for risk analysis, exposure assessment, and pricing to establish a profitable portfolio.
• Work alongside various teams such as claims, finance, risk engineering, actuarial, and technical underwriting.
• Leverage technical underwriting, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities to strengthen relationships with preferred distribution partners within a designated region.

Requirements

This position will be staffed at either the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will decide the suitable level based on the chosen applicant's experience and abilities.

Underwriting Specialist Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED AND 3 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
• OR High School Diploma or GED AND 6 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
• OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree AND 1 or more years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
• OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree AND 4 or more years in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
• Awareness of specific lines of business and legal or regulatory guidelines.
• Understanding of time constraints for issuing quotes on new and renewal accounts.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Executive Underwriter Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED AND 5 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
• OR High School Diploma or GED AND 10 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
• OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree AND 3 or more years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
• OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree AND 8 or more years in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Background in working within time constraints for new and renewal business quotes.
• Experience in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications (for both levels):

• Bachelor's Degree.
• Established broker relationships in Southern California.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.

Compensation and Benefits

• The overall salary range for this position is $87,200.00 to $188,800.00.
• Underwriting Specialist salary range: $87,200.00 to $142,800.00, with eligibility for a 10% short-term incentive bonus.
• Executive Underwriter salary range: $115,300.00 to $188,800.00, with eligibility for a 15% short-term incentive bonus.
