Overview
The Behavioral Health Bureau within the County of Monterey Health Department is seeking to fill multiple full-time positions for Behavioral Health Unit Supervisors (BHUS). This role involves providing daily clinical oversight for a multidisciplinary team, which includes clinical supervision, monitoring caseloads, and ensuring that documentation is completed in a timely manner. Candidates selected for regular full-time roles may be eligible for a signing bonus of up to $10,000.
Examples of Duties
- Oversees subordinate professional and paraprofessional staff, offering clinical guidance and reviewing case files.
- May engage in direct clinical work with patients as part of the specific program's treatment efforts.
- Collaborates with community human services organizations and treatment facilities to coordinate the program.
- Manages a specific behavioral health program aimed at rehabilitating or supporting individuals with mental and emotional challenges.
- Supervises assigned team members, organizes unit meetings, maintains records, and creates reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough Knowledge of:
- Approaches and techniques for individual, family, and group counseling, case management, and social rehabilitation.
- Community resources that assist individuals facing mental or emotional difficulties.
- Principles and methods for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating persons with mental or emotional conditions.
- California state laws that govern behavioral health services for a particular treatment program.
Skill and Ability to:
- Provide effective counseling to patients and conduct individual, family, and group therapy or deliver case management services.
- Supervise and engage in a specialized behavioral health program.
- Train, assign tasks to, and oversee the work of a small staff with diverse backgrounds.
- Communicate clearly in both speech and writing, including preparing concise and accurate records and reports.
- Build productive working relationships with patients, staff, and community agencies.
Required Conditions of Employment
- Hold and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license or arrange suitable transportation approved by the appointing authority.
- Be willing to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and during disasters or emergencies.
- Successfully pass a background check that includes fingerprinting.
- As required by Section 5751 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, possess one of the following licenses:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
- Clinical Psychologist
- Psychiatrist
