Hybrid Civil Subrogation Paralegal Position

General Overview: We are looking for a meticulous and well-organized Civil/Subrogation Paralegal to assist attorneys in civil litigation, particularly regarding subrogation claims and civil defense. The ideal applicant possesses excellent communication and drafting abilities, experience handling insurance-related recovery cases, and the skill to oversee files from initial intake through final resolution across multiple courts.

Primary Duties

  • File Administration: Initiate, structure, and oversee civil litigation and subrogation case files. Examine insurance policies, claim records, and supporting evidence. Prepare correspondence, legal briefs, motions, discovery requests, and settlement proposals. Track deadlines and manage litigation calendars.
  • Subrogation Assistance: Evaluate liability and damages in property, automobile, and/or workers compensation subrogation situations. Interact with insurance companies, adjusters, and opposing legal representatives. Organize and monitor medical treatment details and billing records.
  • Litigation Support: Draft complaints, responses, motions, and prepare or respond to discovery. Issue subpoenas and arrange for service of process. Aid in deposition preparation. Support lawyers in trial readiness, including assembling trial notebooks. Submit documents to state and federal courts, including through e-filing systems. Summarize responses to discovery.
  • Client and Administrative Support: Keep consistent communication with clients and insurance carriers. Track recovery amounts and help with disbursement paperwork. Schedule meetings with clients to address written discovery and collect necessary information.

Required Qualifications

  • An Associates or Bachelors degree is preferred.
  • A Paralegal certificate is mandatory.
  • A minimum of three years of civil litigation and/or subrogation experience is essential.
  • Familiarity with court regulations and filing protocols.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and case management software.
  • Experience with e-filing systems used in state and federal courts.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in insurance defense or plaintiff-side subrogation work.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation lien recovery processes.
  • Familiarity with property damage or automobile subrogation claims.
