Judicial Assistant III - Office Position (Family Law Facilitator Support and Self-Help Intake Clerk)

General Information
This is an Office Assignment role that functions as the Family Law Facilitator Support and Self-Help Intake Clerk. The job involves screening and assisting individuals who represent themselves in court, requiring communication in both English and Spanish. Responsibilities include conducting initial interviews, helping with form completion, and offering basic referrals for the Family Law Facilitator and Legal Resource Center programs. Bilingual proficiency is mandatory. This position also performs clerical duties, manages records, and organizes meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- One year of experience carrying out a full spectrum of responsibilities equivalent to a Judicial Assistant II within the Court; OR
- Successful completion of college-level coursework or comparable specialized instruction in legal terminology, legal procedures, and court operations; OR
- Any blend of training, education, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
- Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) is required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of: Legal vocabulary; court regulations, filing protocols, and document requirements; laws and processes associated with trials and legal proceedings; standard office practices.
- Capability to: Protect confidential information; apply sound judgment; focus on details; clarify complex procedures; supervise, train, assign tasks, and evaluate the work of colleagues; operate computers and relevant software.
Typical Job Functions
- Directs, trains, and distributes work to junior staff members.
- Carries out intricate tasks such as checking legal documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Provides public guidance on case status, processes, fees, and filing steps.
- Prepares and releases legal directives (warrants, writs, subpoenas) following a judge's orders.
- Compiles and manages court documents, evidence, records, and files.
- Creates court schedules and assembles case files for hearings.
- Offers specialized clerical assistance for various court initiatives.
