Overview

This position organizes and completes projects related to building instruments for classroom and research purposes. Duties involve mechanical work and light vehicle repairs, woodworking and metalworking, as well as basic plumbing and electrical tasks. The role also includes repairing instructional materials, organizing field excursions, and occasionally providing staff assistance in the field for periods of up to 10 days.

Requirements

• A High School diploma or GED combined with four years of metal shop experience and journeyman-level proficiency in operating all standard machine shop equipment; or an equivalent mix of training and experience.
• Familiarity and hands-on experience with basic hand tools and power tools.
• Understanding of the necessary safety equipment for power tools, hand tools, and general construction activities.
• Capability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Must be dependable, well-organized, attentive to detail, and capable of collaborating effectively within a team.
• Ability to function in a socially and culturally diverse environment.
• Proficient computer skills and the capacity to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Special Conditions of Employment

• Hold a valid California driver’s license, maintain a clean DMV record, and be enrolled in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program.
• Pass a satisfactory background check regarding conviction history.

Days/Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
