Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour

Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Overtime as needed, with rotating weekends. Hours and days may shift based on company requirements.

Estimated Hours Per Week: 40+ hours

Overview

This role involves creating, overseeing, and upholding all relevant Food Safety Programs and Policies. This includes launching and consistently enhancing initiatives such as GMPs, SQF, HACCP, and SSOPs. You will engage with and guide staff under the direction of the Plant Manager to maintain the highest levels of quality and safety.

Job Duties

  • Build, implement, and oversee QC and Food Safety initiatives to guarantee adherence to legal standards and quality benchmarks.
  • Create, launch, and refine processes as necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with the Quality Control Manager and production staff to ensure alignment with company standards.
  • Check critical control point procedures and parameters. Update and adjust SSOPs, GMPs, and HACCP plans when needed.
  • Confirm sanitation protocols using pre-operational inspections, ATP testing, and microbial swab analysis.
  • Carry out monthly internal facility audits and serve as the primary contact for third-party audits.
  • Validate process procedures to ensure finished products and raw materials meet specifications.
  • Assess raw ingredients and finished products through evaluations.
  • Compile and update raw material specifications based on supplier documentation.
  • Handle all food safety and quality-related tasks at the manufacturing site.
  • Supervise all plant documentation and take a leadership role to promote a safe working environment.
  • Act as the SQF (Safe Quality Food) Practitioner, keeping the SQF system in place and acting as the main point of contact for certification audits.
  • Ensure consistent and timely attendance.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Prior auditing experience with SQF is preferred.
  • Internal or external auditing experience is advantageous.
  • Strong focus on detail, precision, and mathematical ability.
  • Competence with computers.
  • Capability to read and interpret documents, as well as write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team and keep a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, talk, hear, and taste or smell. Must be able to reach, climb, balance, stoop, and regularly lift, push, or pull up to 55 pounds. Specific vision capabilities are necessary.

Work Environment: Generally quiet, except when working on the production floor. Occasionally exposed to humid conditions.
